A few weeks ago I stepped out of the relative obscurity of being a fairly private Morgan Hillan that was somewhat involved in local volunteer work. Any visibility I had was directed back toward the community as it was the focus, not me. I have since stepped out into what could be the fracas of local politics where the focus is on the person and not the community, or should I say the focus is on the community right through a person.
I have entered the world of local politics, which promises to be oh-so more friendly than national politics but still retains the essence of campaigning, the time honored tradition of promoting yourself in a community wide audition for what could well end up being a thankless job, which doesn’t pay very well either by the way.
Whether or not it’s a well paying job or people do thank me I’m not selling out or changing one bit. That last bit has already gotten some chuckles but I am committed.
I plan on being brutally honest and promise to tell it like it is while behaving in the Morgan Hill way - civilized.
Should I evolve as I learn more about the political process? Sure, but will circumstances surrounding a political campaign make me lose my cool or rethink what I’ve gotten myself into?
Why don’t you stick around and see what the journey of a political newbie looks like, from the inside.
